Power BI Desktop

Modified on Tue, 28 Jan at 12:37 PM

There is a Power BI custom connector for connecting to Position Green's API. The connector is one-way, from Position Green to PowerBI.

Any table available in the API is available in Power BI so you need to get a table and design the contents of the table in Position Green first to be able to use the data in Power BI.

When connecting it will ask you to log in to Position Green which you use your username and password or single sign-on as usual.

Requirements

Verified on Power BI Desktop on version 2.109.

Version

Current version of custom connector is 1.0.0 In the event of version updates in Position Green's API which introduce breaking changes, a message is shown in the connector which requires the user to update version. The latest version can always be found here.

Installation

See PGExtension.mez below.

  1. Download the PowerBI custom connector extension.
  2. Copy the extension file into [Documents]/Power BI Desktop/Custom Connectors.
  3. Check the option (Not Recommended) Allow any extension to load without validation or warning in Power BI Desktop (under File | Options and settings | Options | Security | Data Extensions).
  4. Restart Power BI Desktop.

Usage

Create a new report in Power BI and when asked to add data click on Get data from another source.

Select Other in the left menu and scroll down to Position Green. Click Connect.

To use Position Green you are required to log in, click on Sign in to start the process.

A new window is opened with the login from Position Green. Login using your normal username and password or Single Sign-On if that is enabled for your organization.

After the sign in process is complete click on Connect.

Power BI loads all available tenants and subsequent tables from Position Green API and shows them in a list. Clicking on them shows a preview of the data. Select the tables you want to load in the list to the left and click on Load to start using your data from Position Green in Power BI.
