Keeping your emission factors up to date is key to ensuring accuracy in your reporting. With the new Emission Factor Status and update tools, it’s easier than ever to track, compare, and update your factors.
Identifying which Emission Factor List is Being Used
To identify which emission factor list is being used in any measure, you could do the following steps:
- On the List overview page, change the filter from All types to Emission factor
- Hover to an emission factor list, and you would see an i icon appears at the right side of your screen,
- Click on the i button, and a dialogue box will appear informing you which measures the list are being used in.
Understand Emission Factor Status
Every factor in your setup now shows a status, so you immediately know where action is needed:
- Up to date – matches the value in the library.
- Local properties added – you’ve added extra properties on top of the library value.
- Mismatch with library – the setup value doesn’t match the library value.
- New value available – a newer version exists compared to the most recent validFrom.
- N/A - this means that the factor doesn’t have an established connection to the emission factor library.
Note:
A “Mismatch with library” status can also appear when the Item ValidFrom date has been changed in your setup, even if the emission factor value(s) remain the same.
This happens because the comparison is based on the ValidFrom date in both your setup and the library. If the ValidFrom date has been adjusted in your setup — for example, to align emission factors with a specific reporting year — the system will register this as a mismatch. In these cases, the mismatch does not necessarily indicate an error but may simply reflect a different approach to handling time validity.
Use the Diff View
When a factor is in Local properties added or Mismatch with library state, you can quickly compare values side-by-side. This helps you see exactly what has changed before deciding how to update.
Choose Your Update Method
You can update emission factors in two ways, depending on your needs:
- Direct update (one by one): Open an item and update the factor directly. Perfect when you want full control.
- Bulk update (per list): Update many factors at once for a faster, more time-efficient process
How to update factors one by one
- Go to the specific item you would like to update.
- Review the available values for that item.
- Click “Add to list item” to add them to your setup

How to update factors in bulk
- Select the factors in the list which you want to apply the updates for
- Click “Review Emission factor update”
- Select the new values you want to apply
- Click “Apply updates” to update your list with the latest factors.
Establish Missing Connections
If a factor isn’t connected to the library (Status: N/A), it won’t receive updates. In these cases, you can:
- Search for the correct factor in the library.
- Establish the connection yourself.
This ensures the factor stays up to date for all future library updates.

Handling historical data updates
If you update an emission factor for a time period that already has reported data, a recalculation is required to ensure the changes flow through to your visualizations and reports. Please reach out to your Customer Success Manager to have this recalculation performed.
If you add or update an emission factor for a time period where no data has been reported yet, no recalculation is needed and the updated value will automatically apply to future reporting.
